Fashion, Glitz and Glamour

Glitz, Glamour and Pizazz - this was the 2018 fashion show held on 18 October in the Vikki Carras Studio at Oakfields College in Pretoria. There is only so much one can do to stage such a stylish event such as this but our fashion and event management students exceeded our expectations. The venue, beautifully decorated in a black and white silhouette theme, was ready to showcase some of the amazing talent the Oakfields College first and second year fashion students had to show.

Parents seated, students’ hearts palpitating, nerves building, some last minute stitching and some small squabbles behind stage and the event kicked off. Lights, music and action!

Our wonderfully witty MC, Obakeng Ngidi, welcomed our esteemed judges for the evening, namely Desmond Junior Phala, Kelza Mkhize, Talita Steyn and Ninette Joubert who had a mammoth task deciding on the winners of the show.

On with the spectacle and showcasing their T-Shirts and pants, which were designed around the theme ‘Grunge’, were the first year students, Shongile Chuma, Nhlangano Siweya, Kgotlello Skgobela, Jacoline Grobler, Miranda Chueu and Adelaide Masenya.  Next on the ramp were the same students displaying their fantasy-inspired dresses. Last, but definitely not least, was the avante garde eco active wear - completely constructed out of recycled material and entirely sustainable.

Up next were the second year students Bridget Marishane, Lesego Makhubela , Eunice Mwange, Bontle Modise and Lovano Le-Goabe displaying their original designs by showcasing their open range of five or six garments, as well as the show- stopping wedding dresses. Each one had a different theme and used a variety of colours, fabrics and arrangements.

Congratulations to Miranda Chueu on winning the first year category with the runner up being Adelaide Masenya. Bontle Modise won the second year category and the runner up was Lovano Le-Goabe.  We cannot wait to see what fashion show 2019 has in store for us...
