The make-up and special effects programme is extremely hands-on. The projects you will undertake during the year include making zombie faces, cut-off fingers, wounds and a full body suit or full body painting project. Your final projects will be shown during the Golden Oak awards ceremony at the end of the year.

During your time with us, you will be taught all aspects of make-up and special effects, from fashion make-up to stage and film make-up.

This is an extremely practical programme that will provide you with the knowledge to pursue an active career in make-up design.

The programme will equip graduates to enter this highly competitive industry with the theoretical and practical skills needed to open up career paths and job opportunities. The programme emphasis is placed on conceptualisation and innovation.

What qualification do you get from the make-up course?
You earn a Higher Certificate in Make-Up and SFX Design (NQF Level 5). The full-time programme at Oakfields College trains you in beauty, fashion, stage and film make-up plus special effects, and is available at our Pretoria and Johannesburg (East Rand) campuses.
What do you learn in the make-up and special effects course?
You cover all aspects of make-up, from fashion and beauty to stage and film make-up and special effects. Hands-on projects include creating zombie faces, wounds, cut-off fingers and full body painting, with your final work showcased at the annual Golden Oak awards ceremony.
What do you need to study make-up at Oakfields?
You need a minimum of a National Senior Certificate (grade 12 or Matric). No previous make-up experience is required. The programme is highly practical and taught by industry professionals, so you build skills from the fundamentals through to advanced special effects work.
