Prestigious 3 year bursary up for grabs

One deserving auditionee will receive a full three year bursary (to the value of over R160 000) to study Dance/Musical Theatre at Oakfields College!

The Oakfields College Faculty of Dance and Musical Theatre offers a fully accredited three year diploma programme providing extensive hands-on experience in the performing arts. Training is skills-based with the emphasis being on cultivating young and up- coming performers and assisting them with launching their professional careers in the entertainment industry.

Bryan Hill, General Manager of the Teatro and theatre industry stalwart says: “Several South African tertiary education institutions offer a diploma in the performing arts, but Oakfields College is unique in Gauteng that it offers a course that is focussed on practical applications and performing disciplines.”

Offering her unwavering support for the diverse programme offered at Oakfields College, Carlynn De Waal-Smit (Professional actors’ agent, Vice Chair of The Personal Managers Association and Founder Member of the South African Guild of Actors) adds: “Oakfield College currently has their finger on the pulse of the Dance and Musical Theatre industry and is producing skilled talent that are more industry ready than most of the other tertiary institutions.”

AUDITION APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2017 INTAKE ARE NOW OPEN AND Oakfields College has announced that they will once again be offering one deserving auditionee a full 3 year bursary to the value of over R160 000!

This year’s bursary was awarded to Lungile Twala who matriculated from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. “Receiving the bursary has awarded me the opportunity to work towards my dream at an amazing institution with lecturers who are skilled and have made a name for themselves in the industry.” she says, “Moreover, it has opened up the possibility of branching out as a singer and an actor as well; making me more versatile as a performer which can only aid my career.”

She goes on to say “Oakfields College is a small and nurturing environment. The lecturer to student ratio is small, which ensures more personal attention and room for growth. Also, the course gives early exposure to professional industry contacts through talks and workshops. This keeps us motivated and aware of what is happening in the industry we will be entering in a few years.

Candidates will be assessed on their acting, singing and dancing abilities and should demonstrate exceptional talent in at least one of the disciplines.

Candidates who wish to audition for acceptance into the programme for 2017 and be considered for the bursary, may choose to audition on either Saturday 25 June OR 10 September 2016 and must be available for a second round of interviews on Tuesday 20 September at 14h30. The recipient of the bursary will be announced by Monday 26 September 2016.
